Yes, the highlight of the year is coming soon if you like books. I’m talking about book sales, of course. Because it will be a book sale after all.
This is a personally written text on Smålandsposten. Opinions expressed are those of the author.
At the end of February each year, there are usually an additional number of people selling books. Since time immemorial, the book fair falls at this time. Many curious book lovers come to feel and browse, to buy the books you have listed, perhaps to find one or two more that you had not planned. Or you wander aimlessly and find something fun you want.
This year it can also be felt and squeezed, but with certain restrictions, of course. At Akademibokhandeln, potential book customers are encouraged to book in advance as soon as they can. First come first served! Then you can come to collect your bags outside the store. But at seven on the first day of reading, the doors are still open as usual.
– We will have porters who will ensure that there are a maximum of 35 customers inside the store at the same time. There will probably be long lines, but at the same time I think people accept it, you’ve gotten used to it. There has been a lot of thought about how the books should be, it is not possible to have them as usual, says Jennie Åhsberg, who is a store manager at Akademibokhandeln in the city of Växjö.
She looks forward to book sales despite these strange times. And the advance reservations have already arrived. Jennie Åhsberg’s advice on books for sale is many.
“Where Crayfish Sing” by Delia Owens is a “canon book,” thinks Jennie, and I agree with that too. It also suggests Denise Rudberg’s books, “Wolf Summer” by Hans Rosenfeldt, “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. Several books from Lucinda Riley’s The Seven Sisters series are included in the book sale. And the well-known artist Lars Lerin. The children’s book “The troll is not at home” is also something for adults and contains many beautiful images, thinks Jennie Åhsberg.
It is worth reading “The Family” by Johanna Bäckström, as well as “Screen Brain” by Anders Hansen.
– Then there is a push for books on growing, plants and gardens for both children and adults. About composting, growing, environmental thinking and also about toxin-free cleaning at home. Mandelmann’s “Self-catering in Djupadal” is a good book that I can recommend, says Jennie Åhsberg.
The undersigned would like to recommend the winner of the August award “Complete Works” by Lydia Sandgren, as well as “The Year with 13 Months” by Åsa Linderborg.
And now comes a lot: “Monica Magnus 1966” by Ulrika Ewerman, “So I went home” by Karin Smirnoff, or why not the entire Jana Kippos suite that is also for sale, “Girl # 291 by Ninni Schulman , “Weekdays 2” by Ulf Lundell, “Burn all my letters” by Alex Schulman.
On my bedside table is the fresco brick “Morgonstjärnan” by Karl-Ove Knausgård. Many different people, many different perspectives, and they all see the big star. I’m not halfway there yet, but I like it. I’ve never read Knausgård before, it’s time to give Norwegian a chance!
Right now I’m curious about Sara Vaughan’s “Little Disasters” thriller, look through the tips in the book. It is his fourth novel that should be impossible to put down. He has previously written, among other things, “After the Scandal” which will soon become a Netflix series.
