Josef Newgarden has not been happy with his season. The American was aiming for his third overall victory in four years this year, but was ahead of Sunday’s race, more than 100 points behind the great Scott Dixon.
With the second win this year, Newgarden nibbled on Dixon, who finished fifth.
– We had a bit of bad luck. Perhaps this can be a new beginning for the rest of the season, says Newgarden.
The victory came after a dramatic last stop at the depot with almost 50 laps to go. Newgarden and Mexico’s Pato O’Ward came out at the same time, but the American was able to pinch the advantage he had then. And the winner praised his stable for its speed.
– This was a deposit win. I am very proud of my stable. They won the race, not me, says the American according to the engine series website.
Felix Rosenqvist stayed on top again and finished seventh. After eighth place on Saturday, you can wrap up the weekend in Madison, Illinois with two top ten spots.
For compatriot Marcus Ericsson, who finished fifth on Saturday, the race was a disappointment. now he finished first in 23rd and last place. All because of a rear wing.
With 70 laps left to drive, the stable was forced to replace the spoiler on the Swede’s car, which became expensive.
– Two rear wing brackets fell off, we have to analyze why because he was not with anyone, Ericsson tells Aftonbladet.
