Despite the former Formula 1 driver not being in the top ten in the overall table, Ericsson gets a new contract with Chip Ganassi Racing.
“Marcus proved he belongs here, and this season he contributed to the success of the team. He drove selflessly and helped Scott Dixon win the championship,” writes the stable’s CEO, Mike Hull, in a statement.
Last season ended with a twelfth place in the drivers’ championship for the Swede, who finished one place behind his compatriot and teammate Felix Rosenqvist. The team’s third driver, Australian Scott Dixon, won the overall series.
“I want to thank Chip (Ganassi, the owner) and the entire CGR organization for their faith in me,” Ericsson tells the stable’s website.
“He neither wants nor can enter”
According to the stable, Ericsson’s contract spans several years. More details will be revealed closer to the start of the season.
– I neither want nor can go into exact details. The team doesn’t want to discuss it, but it feels great to earn the trust of Chip Ganassi Racing, Ericsson tells Aftonbladet.
The other Swede in the stable, Felix Rosenqvist, is rumored to be walking away from Chip Ganassi Racing. The information places him at McLaren, but no confirmation has come from either Rosenqvist or the stable.
