Leicester are further away in the historic Cup of England after a 3-1 win against Manchester United. And for the first time since 1982, the club has reached the semi-finals.
– I’m very relieved. We played bravely against one of the best teams in Europe, we deserved the win, says Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers.
The victory went to “Foxes” after a big mistake in the first goal. United made a short pass around the penalty area after a throw-in, and midfielder Fred’s pass to goalkeeper Dean Henderson was too weak: Kelechi Iheanacho broke and easily made it 1-0.
– We want to build attacks from the baseline, players are safe there. But sometimes it doesn’t work and it didn’t work that time, says Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Just before the break, Mason Greenwood leveled, but shortly after, Youri Tieleman’s home team took the lead again. And in the final phase of the quarterfinals, Iheanacho decided with a nod to a free kick, and the Nigerian forward became a two-goal shooter. Now he has scored seven goals in his last four games.
“He lacked self-confidence”
3-1 win for Leicester, which is underway while Manchester United will focus on the Europa League and Premier League for the remainder of the season.
– We didn’t have the spark tonight, and that’s understandable. Thursday night in Milan (victory where United advanced to the Electric Quarter) took a lot of energy, and today we had no authority or confidence in ourselves, says Solskjaer.
In the semi-final, Leicester will face Southampton. In the second, Manchester City will face Chelsea.
