The man was arrested at a home in Birmingham at 04:00 a.m. on Monday. Police are now questioning the 27-year-old.
The night before Sunday, there were four knife attacks in the city over the course of 90 minutes. A 23-year-old man died from his injuries. Seven people were injured, two of them seriously. On Monday, two were released from the hospital, according to police.
There is no indication that the incident is related to terrorism or gang crime. The police are also not investigating the incident as a hate crime.
“This is being treated as a murder case,” Steve Graham told a news conference on Sunday.
Later Sunday, police came out with photographs of the suspect from surveillance cameras in the area. The public was also asked to provide information on the events. This led to several tips.
– I would like to thank everyone who shared our request and who provided input to the investigation, Steve Graham says in a statement.
