Recently, British nature filmmaker David Attenborough gifted seven-year-old Prince George with a prehistoric shark tooth. The British court released smiling images on Thursday when Attenborough was there for a private screening of his latest documentary for the royal family.

But the delivery has caused Malta to react and now demand that the tooth be returned. Sir David Attenborough found the tooth in the late 1960s while vacationing on the island with his family. It is embedded in soft yellow limestone and is believed to be about 23 million years old.

The tooth once belonged to a megalodon, a huge extinct shark that could grow up to 20 meters long. It is believed that he hunted whales and large fish.

“There are certain objects that are important to Malta’s natural heritage and that have turned up abroad and that deserve to be returned,” Maltese Culture Minister José Herrera told the Times of Malta.

He believes the tooth belongs to a local museum and will now begin work to return it to the island, which was a British colony until 1964.
