A VMA, an important message for the public, was sent on Saturday night in connection with Gullviksskolan in Malmö starting to burn. Nearby residents have been urged to close windows, doors and ventilation.

At half past ten, the rescue service announces that it has control of the fire.

– Looks good. We will be able to salvage large parts of the building, Angelica Anbring, internal commander of the Syd rescue service, tells TT.

The alarm for the fire came shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday.

– When we arrived at the scene, it was a fully developed fire, said Mats Nilsson, internal commander of the Southern Rescue Service, earlier in the evening.

A total of 14 units from five different fire stations were on site to fight the flames. No one was inside the school when the rescue service arrived at the scene. Extinguishing work will continue overnight and parts of the school building will break down to access homes in the walls.

Police were also called to the scene, but it is still too early for the police to decide if there is a crime related to the fire or not.

According to Jimmy Modin, police spokesman in the southern region, the fire is currently assumed to be unrelated to yesterday’s riots and disturbances.

– So far, we have made absolutely no connection, we will see what they come up with on the spot, he says.

Gullviksskolan is a school with preschool classes and classes from 1-6. In total, about 320 students go to school.
