It wasn’t even three minutes into the match before Emil Sylvegård gave Malmö the lead when he came free after a counter attack and was able to send the puck behind Samuel Ersson at Brynäs.
A good start for Malmö, who have lost eight of the last nine games. But Gävle’s guests also have a heavy suite behind them, five defeats in the last seven matches and both teams desperately needed the three points that Malmö eventually took home.
And an even better start should be. Malmö scored three more goals and the first period ended 4-0. In the second half, Brynäs had replaced Samuel Ersson with J20 goalkeeper Adam Matsson.
The reduction ultimately came from Brynäs. Patrik Berglund sent the 1-4 with just over seven minutes into the second period. But soon after, came an inconvenient expulsion for the guests.
Greg Scott got five plus ten for high grip after punching former Brynäs resident Adam Brodecki in the face. Brodecki had to leave the ice bleeding profusely.
Brynäs, however, achieved the numerical disadvantage and when there were five men on the field again, it was Gävlelaget’s turn to take power. It was well used and Patrik Berglund scored his second goal of the night.
– We can only try to move on. He gets too agitated with expulsions and such. It’s hard to work, Berglund said at Cmore after second term.
More expulsions he turned. Five minutes into the final period, Matsson had to let the first shot in when Lars Bryggman made it 5-2 on the power play.
It ended up being 7-2 after Brynäs had a lot of bad luck. Kristoffer Berglund shot hard at his own player Patrik Berglund, the shot hit his hand badly and Patrik Berglund went straight into the locker room. Malmö took advantage of the situation and Johan Olofsson made the final score 7-2 with just under four minutes to go.
– It was great to win. I think I got to a good game. It’s incredibly good that we have something to build on before the next game, said Ponthus Westerholm, who had no less than four assists in the win.
Got smoother between Oskarshamn and Skellefteå. Before the last period, the situation was 2-2. The third period was scoreless and the event at Oskarshamn was extended.
With 1.10 left to play in overtime, the decision came. Skellefteå responded and Adam Wilsby sent the puck to Rickard Hugg, who was released. Hugg was not wrong and sent the winning goal to the guests.
– We played a good game, we were in control in the last period. A little sad that we didn’t get all three points, says Hugg in CMore after the game.
