Norway’s intelligence service underlines the government’s allegations: Russian actors were behind a hacker attack on the Storting in late August / early September. Stock Photography.
Russian actors were behind the major data breach in the Norwegian parliament three months ago, Norway’s intelligence service PST claims after investigating the matter.
The attack was part of a larger effort against more than 10 Norwegian operations, according to NRK.
– What we have seen against the Storting, we have also seen implemented against a number of Norwegian activities, both public and private, says Hanne Blomberg from PST to NRK.
Blomberg says that “some of them” are of great importance to the country.
The intelligence service has discovered that two groups called APT28 and Fancy Bear carried out the attack. They are believed to have ties to the Russian military intelligence service GRU.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide earlier this fall accused Russia of the attack, which Russia has dismissed.
The PST also investigated whether someone could be prosecuted for a crime, but has not deemed it possible.
