Major deficiencies were found in the Gothenburg nursing homes.

The city of Gothenburg has contracted the auditing firm KPMG for the audit. The final report is delayed, but on Wednesday politicians drew conclusions from what happened in 16 out of a total of 70 nursing homes and where a hundred people were interviewed.

Among the points that are listed as “direct explanations for further spread of infection” are those that are often raised in debate.

In one diagram, the researchers have shown how radically different protective measures were introduced in different households, from the first week of February to the last week of April.

As “main causes to the spread of the infection ”points to“ great mobility of staff ”,“ lack of knowledge about how the infection spreads ”,“ insufficient or too late measures for users, staff and families ”,“ insufficiently close leadership ” , but also “bad luck”.

Elisabet Lann, the Christian Democrats, is the municipal council responsible for the care of the elderly. She says:

– I have been looking forward to the report and feel some relief. Actually, there are no surprises here, this is what we feel ourselves.

The left and the Green Party point out in particular that there should have been a lack of clear guidance for infection control work. But Elisabet Lann said that what was referred to in the report “was close to the leadership.”

Marina Johansson of the Social Democrats pointed out what the researchers thought were deficiencies in basic competence about hygiene routines, and that it was partly about a lack of language skills, an issue the party raised earlier.

– In fact, not all staff are able to absorb written information, they may need to practice the use of protective equipment and also receive other support to understand routines. It is again the question of language, Johansson said.

If deficiencies in basic hygiene routines are pointed out, KD’s Elisabet Lann says “it is clearly serious.”

– It is good for us to know that these are not obvious everywhere. It’s a major awakening to something that is mandated by the National Board of Health and Welfare.
