More than 100 VAT patients have been relocated to Sweden since March 1. Stock Photography.
Since March 1, the regions have been forced to relocate 113 patients with crown disease who are being treated in intensive care due to lack of space, reports Radio Ekot from Sweden. Relocations have been made to hospitals within their own region and to more remote regions.
But moving seriously ill patients carries great risks. A study by Fredric Parenmark, chief physician at Gävle Hospital, shows that mortality increases by 24 percent when transferring patients between intensive care units.
– It is serious that patients have to be transferred. What we can see is that they are generally very fragile in their breathing and if you move them in an ambulance or helicopter there is a risk of complications, of course, says Fredric Parenmark to Ekot.
