Maduro and Pompeo in rhetoric: “Incitement to war”

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo takes the opportunity to speak harshly to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro during a trip to South America. Among other things, he accuses the president of “destroying his own country” and calls him a “drug dealer”, citing legal accusations from the United States government.

– We know that the Maduro regime has impoverished the Venezuelan people, and that Maduro himself is accused of drug trafficking. That means he has to leave his post, Pompeo said during a press conference with Irfaan Ali, president of Venezuela’s neighboring Guyana.

Maduro responds to the attacks with his own volley.

“Mike Pompeo is on a war tour against Venezuela, but he hits back,” he said in a television appearance.

– You have failed in all your attempts to have the governments of the continent go to war against Venezuela.

The United States considers Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as its legitimate president and has imposed heavy sanctions on Venezuela.
