Pandemics and restrictions have hit the restaurant industry hard, and thus moderates and the Center have proposed that restaurants should be allowed to deplete alcohol with food to make it easier for the industry. The municipalities of Växjö and Nacka have taken the corresponding decisions.
On Thursday, Malmö’s labor market and social committee decided to approve the moderates’ proposal.
– For us moderates, this feels incredibly fun considering there are restaurants days or weeks away from bankruptcy in Malmö. It is very gratifying that the Liberals voted with us on this issue, says moderate opposition councilor Torbjörn Tegnhammar.
Social Democratic Councilor Sedat Arif is not happy with the decision:
– It is an unfortunate decision for several reasons. We want all decisions made to be made in accordance with the existing rules. We wanted lawyers to see this to create a good image of what is applied. Then you also have to take into account the perspective of public health, says Sedat Arif (S).
To be considered catering
Under the proposal, home deliveries should be considered as services for closed parties in premises that are not intended for the public. Age and sobriety must be verified at home delivery and only restaurants with a catering permit can deliver alcohol with the meal.
– This is probably an illegal board decision because we have seen that the county administrative board has criticized the same decision in Växjö, says city councilor Sedat Arif (S).
“The Board’s decision applies”
The municipality of Växjö has already given restaurants the green light for home delivery of alcohol during the crown crisis. The Småland County Board of Directors has examined the case and criticizes that serving has been allowed in guest houses, with the service managers not staying until all the wine has been drunk.
– Bureaucrats may have opinions on this, but it is the board’s decision that applies. Now the permitting unit in Malmö must act quickly to get this started as soon as possible, says Torbjörn Tegnhammar (M).
