Along with electrification In the transport sector, the use of biofuels will be important, at least during a transition period, to replace fossil fuels, especially in heavy transport and aviation. But for the transition to play a role, biofuels must be produced sustainably. Our use of biofuels should not come at the cost of deforestation and the deterioration of biodiversity in other parts of the world. Here the moderates are in complete agreement with the Green Party. The problem is that Green Party policy hinders the sustainable national production that we need.
With agriculture and forestry at the forefront and a well-educated population, Sweden is well placed to develop and produce large quantities of sustainable biofuels. Despite this, we currently import about 85 percent of our use. If domestic production does not increase rapidly, that share will likely be even higher when the requirements for incorporating biofuels in the reduction obligation tighten.
