Fridolina Rolfö played from the beginning when the Champions League final was decided at the Anoeta Stadium on Sunday night.

His Wolfsburg was not the favorite against Lyon, who had won the most prestigious club tournament four years in a row and Eugénie de Sommer opened the scoring for Lyon in the 25th minute. He took advantage of a return that came directly from Friederike Abt in the goal of the Wolfsburg.

Lions sell Champions League

Just before the end of the first half, Japan’s Saki Kumagai also rose to 2-0 with a cannon shot outside the penalty area.

Alexandra Popp cut for Wolfsburg to a quarter of an hour into the second half after Fridolina Rolfö was involved in the preparation, but the German team failed to force a draw.

– I still think that we entered the middle with the feeling that we can turn the game around. Nothing is impossible and we will score three goals. That was all that mattered at the time, but it wasn’t enough until the end, says Fridolina Rolfö on TV10.

Instead of 2-2, Icelandic Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir, who has just left Wolfsburg, rules at 3-1 two minutes before full time.

“We found better resistance”

The result means that Lyon can celebrate their fifth (!) Consecutive Champions League title. Heavy for Wolfsburg, who now represented the opposition in three of the finals that Lyon won.

– Of course I am very disappointed. We entered with the attitude of winning the match, says Fridolina Rolfö.

He has to settle for league and cup titles in Germany.

– It would have been the icing on the cake to make a profit today. But we must stand upright at the back, we find better resistance, says Rolfö.

Lyons’ Lucy Bronze explains part of the secret behind her team’s success after the game.

– Getting so many Superstars to join in and play together as a team is phenomenal. That is why Lyon has been so successful, he says on TV10.
