Henrik Lundqvist and his family currently live temporarily in Gothenburg. Something he usually does during the summer, but for the first time in 15 years he went to Gothenburg in early April due to the crown pandemic that canceled the NHL season.

– It is a very strange moment in which we are living now. In New York, especially, it is an extreme situation. So it felt good to come home and be close to family and friends, says Lundqvist when he visits SVT’s “Luuk & Hallberg” program.

The 38-year-old has spent 15 seasons in the NHL and with the New York Rangers where he was nicknamed “The King of New York.” But in the last season, the crown began to drop, at least in terms of playing time.

In February of this year, Henrik Lundqvist was missing. the first time on the combat team during his time in the Rangers and more selections would be.

– Nothing lasts so clearly. So you have an objective image and a dream, but then you have to adapt to the environment and reality.

But what exactly the target image is today, Lundqvist himself does not currently know.

– That is a very good question. I’ve always seen myself play in the Rangers and last a long time. It is quite a long time, but now you are at an age where you must take it year after year and see the situation and conditions. Now you also have some time to think.

Luuk: How do you feel you’re thinking?

– What I went through last winter was pretty difficult, to be honest. I have had a certain role and a position in the team for almost 15 years and even during the years that I have played in Sweden, things have changed a lot now. So of course I was thinking a lot, on a daily basis, almost every hour for months, and it gets really hard mentally.

– Now that we went home, I tried to take and live in the present, focus on the family and gather the thoughts that can. Sometimes you become your own enemy about how much you think about things.
