The Uddevalla District Court was a good time.

The district court is the worst in the country when it comes to the proportion of criminal cases awaiting a decision, reports Bohusläningen.

Many of Sweden’s district courts are under heavy pressure right now, with piles of cases growing.

However, the piles grow faster in the Uddevalla District Court.

– It doesn’t look good, there’s nothing to stay under a chair with, admits Arne Åkerström, acting lawyer at the district court in Bohusläningen.

– As it is now, we go down all the time because we do not have the ability to judge the goals at the rate they enter. In the long run, it is very worrying, no doubt.

The newspaper examined the country’s district courts and analyzed how many of the criminal cases registered in the last 12 months are still pending decision.

According to the National Courts Administration, the proportion of cases awaiting a decisive hearing must be 35 percent for a district court to meet the government’s goal of how quickly criminal cases must be resolved.

Lycksele’s district court is the best in the country at 32 percent, while the national average is 48 percent. However, for Uddevalla (87 percent) and Falun (68 percent) who top the list, it seems much more difficult.

– Basically, it’s about running a business, says Pontus Thor, who is an analyst at the Swedish Court Administration, to Bohusläningen.

– These are management and governance and organizational issues, which can be due to many things, recruitment for example.
