During the night, long lines have formed on the Öresund Bridge when the police are forced to check on many travelers who want to reach Sweden. “I’ve been waiting for more than an hour and a half and nothing happens, it’s a complete stop,” says Eva Hartzman.

At midnight on Tuesday night, a ban on entry into Sweden from Denmark was introduced, meaning that only Swedish citizens and those who live or work in Sweden are admitted by the border police.

During the night, this has led to long lines at the Öresund Bridge. Eva Hartzman says she has been queuing in her car for over an hour and a half.

– I have stayed completely still and try to receive a message from the police, but they only say that they are waiting for a decision. But nothing happens. You can’t do this, we became hostages on the bridge, he says and continues:

– I understand you must have this entry ban, but then you have to send reinforcements so you can handle the flow of cars!

Thommy Brännström is the head of the border police in the southern region and says that the police “are working feverishly to undo this knot.”

– We have to make a series of decisions about those who are not allowed to enter Sweden and we are working to rectify this, he says.

– My assessment is that we should be able to return to normal operation soon.

How do you practically handle the rejected?

– We turn them over. They have to take another path and return to the bridge.
