It takes seven minutes to go to Lomma from Malmö C, starting today, Sunday. The new Lommabanan will simplify the life of commuters who want to move between Hyllie, Triangeln, Malmö C, Lomma, Furulund and Kävlinge stations.

– I can’t travel by train, but I like to go with him to Malmö for a beer. After the corona pandemic, that is, says his mother Annika Persson.
As the purple Pågatåget rushes towards Lomma Station from Malmö, Gustav and Erik look up at it, magnetized by the movements of the train.
– You have someone in the family who is a train conductor, says Annika Persson.
– Grandfather! Gustav says.
Today he does not drive, and usually the Öresund trains. When the train has left, Erik Persson wants to stop and look at the next one. There is one train per hour in each direction.
– Not you, we don’t have time today, says Annika Persson and puts him in the carriage.
The journey from Malmö to Lomma was quick, seven minutes for Albin and Elin Persson.
Elma and Albin Andersson from Lomma get off the train. On Saturday, they took the bus to Malmö Central. It took 23 minutes. Today, Sunday, they took the train. It took seven minutes.
– This is great, says Albin Andersson.
– Yes, before traveling every day to Malmö, but it took me too long to get to my place of work, between 45 minutes and an hour, so I stopped. So now it takes seven minutes for Malmö, says Elin Andersson.
The first train in Lommabanan left on Sunday at 05.55 and from Kävlinge the first train left at 6.32.
Carina Lundblad and Stefan Lundblad approach the train in Lomma, they live just 500 meters from the station.
Lomma residents Stefan and Carina Lundblad have been sitting at Lomma Station at Sunday lunchtime for ten years. They do not intend to travel by train amid the corona pandemic, but they want to be vigilant.
– Yes, we would see how long it took to get here, but I forgot to check, says Carina Lundblad.
– We live only 500 meters from here, says Stefan Lundblad.
She cannot take the train to Lund and work at Tetra Pak, but for Carina Lundblad, the train may be a good alternative in the future.
– Yes, I work at Limhamn. Then after the corona pandemic, I can take the train downtown and then a bus to work, says Carina Lundblad.
Are you taking a bus now?
– I’m driving now. Sometimes I have taken the train. So it took an hour to get to work, says Carina Lundblad.
Lommabanan
A 19 kilometer long single track train section from Kävlinge through Furulund, Lomma and arriving in Stambanan and then heading to Malmö C, Triangeln and Hyllie.
Lommabanan cost 270 million SEK to build and construction began in December 2018.
Previously, the track was only served by freight trains and occasional passenger trains that did not stop.
The Lommabanan stage 2 can start construction in 2023-25. Then Lommabanan will have a half hour traffic. Also, there may be new stations in Flädie and Alnarp.
