“With a deal we are much better equipped, although of course it will still feel like the UK is leaving the EU. The framework now exists for future close cooperation between the UK, Sweden and the EU.”

“An agreement between the EU and the UK is an important basis for our future relationship,” he writes.

EU Minister Hans Dahlgren (S) says the deal is very good news.

– You feel a bit of relief, it really was at the eleventh hour, only seven days left until New Year’s Eve, he says.

He believes that it is very important for the Swedish economy that trade with the British is now regulated, without tariffs or quotas.

– We negotiate with the UK for a total of 300 billion per year.

At the same time, it emphasizes that the agreement is much more than just trade. It is a broad agreement that regulates a number of things such as energy, fisheries, road transport, air traffic, future police cooperation and travel to the UK.

Hans Dahlgren hasn’t had time to read the agreement yet, but says he will examine it closely in the coming days. Based on what you know now, you think it sounds like a good deal. However, he admits that it will be more difficult for Swedish companies.

– It is true that more administration will be required for those who trade with the UK, such as customs declarations and so on. Many people think that it would have been better if the UK had stayed in the EU. It is true that there will be some messes, but it would have been worse if we had to impose tariffs.

European Council and European Parliament Now we must analyze the agreement before giving the green light. Britain’s Parliament will vote on the deal on December 30.

According to Hans Dahlgren, there will be no EU summit, but rather the EU countries will announce in writing whether they support the deal.

– I think it should be done by December 28 at the latest.

Can you already say that Sweden will support the deal?

– Everything indicates that this will be approved by both the British Parliament and the Council.
