Löfven – significantly easier with Biden

Goodbye Donald. Hello Joe. It paves the way for a new impulse in cooperation across the Atlantic.

– Biden defends the multilateral in a completely different way. I think that is the basis for rebuilding trust. Donald Trump believed that the EU was actually founded to make things difficult for the United States. If you have that basic vision, then it is not easy to have any transatlantic cooperation, says Löfven in a press conference with Swedish EU correspondents via the web.

Well says hans

EU Minister Hans Dahlgren (S), who is struggling to find the right words to describe the Trump era, is also participating.

– The contempt shown by the EU as a whole and our way of cooperating with others and within the Union, it was. . . Yes, it is good that it is soon behind, he says.

With Biden, Sweden and the EU once again have a like-minded partner in, for example, climate change and international cooperation in the trade and health organizations of the WTO and WHO.

Duties remain

But not everything will be easy. The trade barriers that Trump has introduced, among other things, for steel and aluminum are likely to remain in place for a while longer.

– Trade issues will remain quite difficult. It is not the case that everything is resolved just because you change management. But I still see that the conditions exist for a better relationship and therefore also less of these kinds of obstacles in the future with the new administration because there is a different approach, says Löfven.

For many, the final picture of the Trump era will be the chaos that prevailed during the assault on the Congress building in Washington in early January.

– It was the images that really shook and put the finger on what we need to counter. Populism and polarization are dangerous. Where disorder, falsehood and lies have a greater impact, they create big problems in a society, and it is a society that we do not want, says Stefan Löfven.
