During the Prime Minister’s question time at the Riksdag, Ulf Kristersson (M) once again criticized the government for having an unclear crown strategy, when stricter local restrictions now apply in up to 17 of Sweden’s 21 regions.
– I think that nobody mistrusts the intentions, but many think that there is ambiguity. When you first lift restrictions and then face them again, says leader M.
But according to Stefan Löfven, municipalities have an effect.
– Locally determined councils reach out to the people and are perhaps even better enforced, says Prime Minister.
“It hurts confidence in politics”
At the same time, Löfven received criticism from his own government document, when Anders W Jonsson (C) reiterated that the government, eight months after the outbreak of the pandemic, had not yet introduced a pandemic law.
Politician C believes a fairer system is needed on how restrictions affect various activities, and exemplified by how shopping malls are allowed to stay open while cinemas are forced to close.
– It damages people’s trust in politics.
An anti-pandemic team is under investigation and is expected to be ready by summer. The process must be legally secure, responds the Prime Minister:
– It is about restricting the freedom of people, and must be properly discussed before presenting it. Important values are at stake.
Löfven: “I should be with the family”
During the subsequent press conference, the alcohol ban proposal was also questioned after 10 p.m., where, according to SVT Nyheter, there are infection tracking figures showing that serving alcohol represents a marginal part of the spread of the infection.
But according to Löfven, the measure is necessary, even if visits to pubs are not the “main problem”.
– When you are in a pub or bar and have had some alcohol, vigilance to keep your distance decreases.
– Social distancing is crucial and therefore we have rules about how many people can sit at a table. But even there, it is not the intention to pick up seven strangers in the city, so that you become eight around the table. It should be with the family that you actually spend time with, says the Prime Minister.
