Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, together with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, will bring together world leaders for a digital gathering tomorrow. The purpose is to strengthen international cooperation on, among other things, democracy and the climate.

The topics to be discussed are also how to implement the 12-point UN Declaration, which, after tough negotiations, was adopted at the opening of the UN General Assembly last fall.

– The Declaration is a roadmap on how the world should resolve the wars, conflicts and great challenges of our time. The countries that are now joining together, together with the UN Secretary General, will be a driving force in the implementation of this declaration, says Pezhman Fivrin, an adviser to Stefan Löfven.

The participating countries are, in addition to Spain and Sweden, Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Jordan, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea and Tunisia.

– Then, the countries, in each region where they operate, will involve more countries in this cooperation, says Pezhman Fivrin.

The meeting is chaired by Prime Minister Sánchez with Löfven as co-organizer.

– Stefan Löfven wants Sweden to take a place in the world arena. It is a way of saying that the UN is important, the UN can do things, we are prepared to go a little further, says Pezhman Fivrin.

The intention is that tomorrow’s meeting will result in a joint statement on the next step.

– Tomorrow after the meeting there will be some kind of declaration of intent on what the group should do and how to proceed with the 12 objectives.
