LO president of the union agreement: “A little bitter”

TT: Is it critical that Metall och Kommunal reach an agreement with the employers?

– I cannot criticize individual unions that sign agreements that benefit their members, says LO President Susanna Gideonsson.

– On the other hand, it feels a bit sad that the Confederation of Swedish Companies could suddenly say yes to the demands we had in the negotiations almost a month ago.

TT: So is it positive or negative regarding today’s deal?

– It is both positive and negative. I think we could have settled between the major organizations a few weeks ago. It’s just to say that the questions weren’t ripe then, there was no mandate to go that far apparently when it came to saying yes to our demands. It is as it is now and there is nothing to cry about without dealing with the situation in the future.

TT: Would the LO board have said yes a month ago if it was this new agreement that applied?

– I do not know. They are more likely to have said yes if these parts are included, says Gideonsson.
