Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson expressed concern that social distancing is not possible if football resumes.

Now the club is criticizing Anderson.

“We are disappointed with Joe Anderson’s comments,” Liverpool said in a statement.

Resume the Premier League or not?

That is the big problem for English football at the moment.

In games, Liverpool have two wins to secure the title, and whether the league is played more or not, Liverpool could be celebrating a long-awaited Premier League title.

“Not many would respect”

City Mayor Joe Anderson is concerned about such a scenario. Although any match would be played at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium without a crowd.

In an interview with the BBC, he believes that, independently, supporters will gather outside the arena.

Especially if the club secures the league title.

“Not many people would respect what we said and stay away,” says Anderson.

The same applies if the matches are played on neutral ground.

– I think it will be very difficult for the police to keep people separate and maintain social distance if people celebrate outside of Anfield. It would be an exaggeration, he says.

“Determined”

In a statement on the Liverpool website, the club writes that they are disappointed with Anderson and that there is no basis for his comments.

– In recent weeks, we have spoken with support groups that have informed us that they are determined to respect social distance, should football resume, writes the club.
