ÖSTERSUND / STOCKHOLM. It was a tough battle between Sweden and perhaps the best sprinters in the world in Östersund.

Linn Svahn won before Jonna Sundling.

Surprising third: Frida Karlsson, who could have already washed at the beginning.

Today there was a slightly different sprint competition in Östersund. Instead of the quarter-finals and semi-finals, all the skiers ran three laps, with the possibility of getting on and off at each lap.

Linn Svahn, Jonna Sundling, and Frida Karlsson stayed in the main heat all day. That trio made up for the podium in the end.

Svahn passed Sundling right at the end and won.

– Jonna has become very strong today, I had full sight to keep up. Taking it at the end was good proof that I keep racing, says Svahn.

How do you see the competition from Sundling?

– Jonna has been strong. A compliment to her. She has done the hardest job of speeding up.

Behind the duo, Frida Karlsson, yesterday’s winner in the distance race, came in third. It stands out for her that she had a false start in two of the qualifiers, which would have meant washing the dishes had it happened at the World Cup.

Meet the elite on the Ski Tour

– Luckily, yellow cards are not distributed here. By then, Frida was gone, says Anders Södergren in the Sportbladet broadcast.

The competition has formally seen a state of training, but the prestige is great because it replaces the World Cup this week. The Swedish national team has chosen to forego VC weekends in Davos and Dresden in December due to the pandemic.

The next time Karlsson, Sundling and Svahn face off against the world’s elite, it will likely be on the Ski Tour, which begins on New Year’s Day.

The men’s race was won by Oskar Svensson before Marcus Grate and Johannes Häggström.
