Quad Bogey for Linn Grant

Sensational tight at the US Open.

Then Linn Grant, 21, collapsed after a quadruple ghost.

– It’s painful, says former star Carin Hjalmarsson Koch in Viasat.

It has only happened once in the history of the US Open that a fan has won. It was 1967 and the unlikely winner was Catherine Lacoste.

But after a brilliant start to this year’s edition, hopes were raised that Swede Linn Grant could give a new boost.

He came out on the lead ball in Saturday’s round (the third of four) and started steadily. After playing nine holes, she was still only three strokes behind Japan’s leader Hinako Shibuno.

Then what was not allowed to happen happened.

Two visits to the water

After a perfectly hit drive, he missed the entrance to the left of the green and saw the ball roll down the water barrier. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, he pushed the chip and the skittle fell back into the murmur.

In the end, the quadruple bogey (four strokes over the pair of holes) was a done deal.

– This is almost painful to watch, says Viasat commentator Tobias Bergman.

– The second battle happens, you can miss it. But then chip too short for him to come back… it’s painful, says former main player Carin Hjalmarsson Koch.

Has happened before

Linn Grant also had a close feeling at the US Open two years ago, when he was 18, but then collapsed during the weekend’s games. When Sportbladet spoke to her before Saturday’s round, she said she had “learned a lot since then”.

But, sadly, history seems to repeat itself.
