Linköping HC pauses all activities until Tuesday and also Wednesday for the academy and A teams.
Of the 24 that have been found infected so far, the team of players is very affected.
– Yes, there are many, just under 20 players have tested positive on different dates, says Niklas Persson.
Persson tries to see the situation in a positive light.
– We have some who are beginning to recover and have passed their seven days. Then there are some who got sick during the trip. All, of course, have tested positive for covid-19, but most have very mild symptoms.
Linköping now has a first, second and third five affected.
– This is how it is. You can’t run a regular business with so many players out there, says Persson.
How the infection got to the club could not solve it.
– We really don’t know.
Linköping has currently had four games postponed, the most recent being Thursday’s home game against Malmö.
– There will be a national team break next week, which may mean we can have a decent training week. If I had continued with matches, I would have really made up for it.
Now Linköping is forced to keep the national team free of matches.
– We will try to reunite the squad and everyone will recover in peace and tranquility, we can keep them isolated and not take risks. We really have to take our responsibility and then we can use that week to get the team together and start training again.
Östergötland is a region which has been hit hard by the pandemic and Linköping is no exception.
– It was like that, especially at the beginning, Östergötland was very affected, then he calmed down. Now it has exploded again.
The club has chosen to take a break from training for team A, on Thursday they hope to be able to hold a session again.
– It is a plan that we constantly have in discussion. Healthy people have been given an exercise program to follow at home, Persson says.
Of the younger teams, some players from the club’s quarry have been affected.
– But women are completely saved, says Persson.
Corona overshadowed team SHL’s premieres in September. But Persson is not to say that SHL started the season too early.
– I don’t think we would have changed anything if the series had waited to start.
On Saturday, Linköping has away from home against Oskarshamn.
– We hope we can play it, says Persson.
It is discussed that SHL would close the league due to crown problems so that no team can leave.
– I understand that the discussion arises. If we had ended up in this situation at the end of the season, what would have happened then, how can the matches be moved forward? It is a decision for the Ice Hockey Association, not the SHL.
Even though Linköping is at the bottom of the table and has been hit hard by covid-19, Persson sees a bright future.
– It’s just a matter of winning hockey games and that will resolve itself, he says with a slight laugh.
Djurgården has so far had to postpone three SHL matches in the future due to a covid-19 infection in the team.
– The situation, as far as I know, is the same as last Friday, five players tested positive, says the club’s communication director Mattias Lönngren.
Squad players who have not tested positive train as usual. Tuesday’s away game against Växjö has been postponed, but Thursday’s game against Färjestad is scheduled to be played at home.
