Linköping had to get revenge on Umeå after this summer’s collapse.

And revenge, you have it.

– We had much better control this time, says coach William Strömberg.

When Linköping and Umeå met for the second time today in this year’s damallsvenska, the match offered a real sense of deja vu, initially at least.

In the last match, Linköping led 2-0 after a goal by Uchenna Kanu and an own goal by Umeå.

Today, Linköping has moved up to a 2-0 lead after just that, a goal by Uchenna Kanu and an own goal by Umeå.

I got help on the way from Umeå

But that’s where the similarities ended. Unlike in the July match (in which Umeå turned around and won 3-2), Linköping did not make the mistake of letting his opponents re-enter the match.

– We had much better control this time. It was never the same scenario, says coach William Strömberg.

But Östgötarna got a lot of help on the road to victory today, and not just through the unfortunate goal.

The 1-0 came through a goalkeeper offer from Tove Enblom at Umeå’s goal.

The 2-0 came ten minutes later, when Jasmin Nejati put the ball into his own net. The climb was total.

He controlled the match at the goal

True, they went from 0-2 to 3-2 the last time the teams met, but today it was never close.

Instead, Linköping completed the rematch when Kanu scored his second goal of the day and set the final score at 3-0.

– It was good to win, it was good to score three goals and it was good to keep a clean sheet. Then it was also a forward drop in terms of play, says Strömberg.

With the victory, Linköping climbs to third place in the table, however, with one more game played than the four Kristianstads playing tomorrow.

Umeå, in turn, remains in sixth place.
