Lindgren had to settle for bronze in the WC

– It is an unimaginable and very beautiful evening. It has been a hard night and I feel bruised after yesterday’s accident, but now I am a world champion for the second time. This time I don’t believe in that, says a delighted Zmarzlik right after their semi-final.

The crowd in Torun’s well-equipped arena was wild with joy and a huge hugging party broke out with Zmarzlik as the main character and it took time before the second semi-final could be contested.

Lindgren’s bike stopped at the final

Zmarzlik capped off the night by winning the final, where Lindgren’s bike stopped immediately after the start and finished fourth without finishing. It would have been enough for Lindgren to be in the top three in the final to secure the silver.

Fredrik Lindgren was third before tonight’s race and had to settle for Tai Woffinden for silver in an overtake after the final because they were exactly the same in the overall standings. Woffinden controlled the race from inside and Lindgren couldn’t threaten.

Lindgren did his best with masterful driving through the night to the final and overtaking heat, but he had too difficult a starting position. If Lindgren won, Zmarzlik had to be eight or under for the Swede to take the championship home.

Correction: in a previous version we wrote that Lindgren took the silver. We apologize for the incorrect wording.
