Sweden are last in their Nations League group and have conceded seven goals.
The team has received criticism, prompting Victor Lindelöf to send a pass for criticism.
– Sometimes it feels like we’re playing against, with all due respect, the Faroe Islands, he says.
Sweden are last in their Nations League group after four defeats. During the fall, the team has also conceded eleven goals in total, seven of them in the Nations League.
After the game against Denmark, the team also received harsh criticism.
But now Victor Nilsson Lindelöf, who joined the national team but abstained in the game against Denmark, is putting his foot in the debate.
– It is not good that we let in goals. But again. We met very good nations and more recently outside (Portugal) we were punished because we were a bit reckless. But at the same time, it sometimes seems like we are playing the Faroe Islands, with all due respect. But we meet very good nations and sometimes they punish you a little, he says.
He punished himself
The Nations League group includes both world champions France and European champions Portugal and Croatia. Sweden, normally strong on defense, have tried during matches to develop their offensive play. He has been punished from time to time.
Both center-back and right-back Mikael Lustig gave their opinion on the criticism and the losses in the press conference prior to the meeting with Croatia on Saturday:
– If you do not win, it is clear that you must have criticism. But since it was “Vigge”, the types of games that we have received feel extremely exciting. As Víctor says, we want to take new steps and then we have to keep the ball and create scoring chances. It’s hard to do that against nations that are in the top five in the world. We have learned a lot in these games, although it is difficult to lose, says AIK-backen.
“You must correct mistakes”
Albin Ekdal is on the same line, but believes that there should be no excuse for the entire group match. She hopes for a better balance against Croatia.
– I think we have to correct the mistakes we made in the other Nations League matches. We have had a lot of fun and we have tried to play the ball on the ground and at times we have been a little naive and we have had a bit of balance. We have to get back to basics where we’ve been so good at. We will still have the joy of playing, but we have become a bit confident and a bit naive. So let’s get back to the basics, he says.
Sweden must beat Croatia at home at Friends Arena for a chance to remain in the Nations League A division. Sweden is last in the group, three points behind Croatia.
On Tuesday awaits the last group game away from France.
