Christer Hofmeijer, 36, joined a tire company in Östermalm in Stockholm, wearing a motorcycle helmet.
A few seconds later, he shot and killed a 28-year-old man with multiple shots.
The motive must have been an arrangement within organized crime.
He has now been sentenced to life in prison for murder and attempted murder.
At 11 o’clock on March 27, several police patrols were alerted to a shooting at Östermalm in central Stockholm.
There, a 28-year-old man was found dead in a tire company garage.
Christer Hofmeijer, 36, is now sentenced to life in prison for, among other things, murder, as well as attempted murder of the friend of the victim who managed to escape and survived. The assailant left the scene on a motorcycle after the shooting.
The district court assesses that the murder was carefully planned and almost resembles an execution.
According to the district court, the prosecutor has shown that the defendant at that time wore clothing similar to that worn by the perpetrator, that he had a cutting-gun similar to the weapon used in the events and that the defendant was riding a motorcycle. The prosecutor has also shown that the defendant, immediately after the fact, told other people that he was the author, ”the district court writes in a press release.
Stuck in the surveillance camera
The shooting was caught on the tire company’s surveillance camera. The motive must have been a conflict in the criminal environment. Among other things, the explosion of a cafe and various other violent acts are linked to the murder.
Earlier this year, the encrypted chat service Encrochat was cracked by the French police and Europol, which, according to the prosecutor, helped strengthen the motive for the murder in the garage.
According to the preliminary investigation, the 28-year-old and his friend were about to sit down for breakfast when the garage door opened and a man wearing motorcycle gear and a helmet entered.
The victim went to the door to meet the man, when she first thought he was a customer. The motorcyclist then grabbed him and fired several shots.
The perpetrator also shot the victim’s friend, who nevertheless managed to escape from the scene.
The 36-year-old will continue to be detained until the verdict is final.
