As infection increases in 20 of the nation’s 21 counties, more and more people report that the burden of sampling is increasing. Based on the latest state of the nation’s county administrative boards, 16 counties see an increase in sampling load and seven counties have already reached their maximum capacity.
Different types of problems He reported, among other things, that five counties show a lack of analysis capacity and two counties have a queue for the appointment. Two counties claim they also lack traces of infection.
Mainly, the problems are related to the capacity of the laboratories, but also to the shortage of personnel due to the fact that the flu vaccines have started.
Already in early November, the Stockholm region was forced to pause the possibility of ordering tests for four days due to high demand.
Now the load has increased considerably again. In the region, Stockholm’s Always open test app says that it is currently not possible to request a home test for covid-19 because the tail must be skimmed first.
“The home testing order is expected to reopen Wednesday at 3pm. Test drives can still be booked,” it says on the app.
In the latest picture of the county councils’ situation, Sörmland claims that there is great pressure on sampling where the analytical capacity is close to the maximum limit, and in Västernorrland the limit was already reached on Friday. The Värmland County Board of Directors also claims that the sampling and analysis capacity of PCR tests has reached the maximum limit, but will increase slightly during the week.
Blekinge describes that both infection tracking capabilities and sampling analysis are busy businesses. While waiting for additional analysis capacity, Västra Götaland will be forced to reduce the number of PCR tests this week by approximately 25 percent. In Östergötland, operational disruptions have affected the ability to analyze samples, resulting in only priority groups being analyzed and responses being delayed.
In Örebro, they point to growing problems with long waiting times for the sample of care and socially important personnel, which creates problems, especially in preschool centers where there is a large sick leave.
According to information from DN has The Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) has summoned the regions, the Public Health Agency and the National Board of Health and Welfare to a meeting next week, November 18, to discuss the issue.
“There is information that testing and infection tracking cannot be fully performed and that there are technical issues related to laboratory and capacity,” it says in the Hallengren subpoena, which DN has read.
The Minister emphasizes that it is important to keep testing to a high standard and to continue to track infections to reduce the spread of infections.
“I want to participate in the reality that the regions are experiencing, the efforts that the regions are making to maintain testing and tracking infections and ensure that all possible resources are invested in meeting a high level of these activities.”
The Karolinska University Laboratory, which is in charge of the Stockholm tests, claims that approximately 4000-5000 tests are published every day.
“The demand is so great that we have to ensure capacity for priority groups with this limitation of the number of home and drive-in tests per day. We publish new tests at home once a day and new schedules are also allowed once a day, ”the press service writes in an email.
DN has also applied for the post of Minister of Social Affairs, Lena Hallengren.
