Järvsöfaks was trained and driven by Jan-Olov Persson throughout his career. The horse won 201 races in 234 starts during the years 1997-2009 and ran just over 21 million SEK.
The plan was that “Faksen” would be killed on Thursday, but when he was to be transported on Monday, he realized that time had run out.
In the last two months, he has sunk a lot on his back and muscles. We were going to transport it today but it couldn’t get over the loading dock. His health ran out. There wasn’t much to think about, Jan-Olov Persson says of the decision to kill Järvsöfaks.
Describe the horse as “Fantastic in every way.”
– We have experienced a lot together. When he competed, he won 42 consecutive victories. It’s clear that the driver’s form in me may not have been in the best shape at times, but when you sat in the sulking behind him, you got great charisma. You became strong, says Jan-Olov Persson.
A funeral will be held: a tombstone was ordered and a memorial grove will be built near the horse meadow.
Järvsöfaks turned 26 and was appointed in cold blood this year twelve times and won the title of horse of the year three times. The horse holds the current world record of 1,640 meters with 1.17.9 from 2005. In 2013, he was elected to the Hall of Fame for the race.
The popular horse also became a household name to many outside of the sport. The cold-blooded man, among other things, has had the honor of participating in the high mounted guard and has a street named after him in Hudiksvall.
– For me, it has meant an incredible amount. And it has raised the entire cold-blooded sport enormously. In both Sweden and Norway, with its popularity, says Jan-Olov Persson.
