33 people working with infections at Sus in Malmö have been diagnosed with covid-19 infection. The rooms are now reducing the number of places of attention.

All infected people must work in Malmö. Maria Josephson, operations manager for infectious diseases, says the outbreak is due to the further spread of the infection in society. In addition, the results of the covid tests have taken up to five days.
– Health personnel cannot work from home. They can’t always avoid working at two-meter intervals. And we’ve had a delay in the test results. You continue working as long as you have no symptoms and then it turns out that several staff members have been at the workplace without knowing they had covid, Maria Josephson tells HD and Sydsvenskan.
All infected people are at home. No one is seriously ill, according to Maria Josephson.
– Several pieces are still completely symptom-free, she says.
Once someone in the room has been found infected, an infection monitoring is started. Every person who has worked at a distance of less than two meters for more than 15 minutes in the last five days before the infection is diagnosed.
Does this mean that the number of infected people can increase?
– Yes, there may be more, says Maria Josephson.
Since all staff wear safety equipment in contact with patients, the infection is likely to come from outside and not from patients.

– We wear protective equipment in contact with all patients, and protective equipment works well. So it may be the case that patients enter places where they do not have covid symptoms, and then they can infect staff, but we do not know, says Maria Josephson.
The Infections business area has a total of 330 employees. This means that 10 percent of the staff are infected. Now it has been decided to reduce from 19 to 12 care places so that the ratio of staff per patient is not lower.
– In the last few days, we have seen a slight slowdown in the number of new covid cases and then we distributed the allocation among all departments. We work closely throughout the hospital, says Maria Josephson.
Have you tested all the staff members now?
– Some were sampled on Wednesday, others on Thursday. Today we tested maybe 75 pieces, at least. You can tell that all staff members are sampled at some point, absolutely.
Mouth protection has been used for a long time in patients close to ours, but since November 20, there is a requirement of mouth protection at all times in the wards and since December 1 throughout the operation. Except when staff need to eat or drink.
– Despite that, we have had more patients. It may have helped something, but it’s not a magic bullet, says Maria Josephson.
The outbreak should not They have influenced the staff too much in their daily work. But Maria Josephson points out that medical personnel have struggled a lot during the pandemic.
