Shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, the rescue service was alerted to a plot on the outskirts of the Hörnsjö community in Nordmaling municipality. Then it was burned to the ground in a villa and in a large number of cars that were outside.

– The residential building has burned to the ground, we first suspected that there were people left, but that was not the case, says Curt Byström, rescue leader at the rescue service in Nordmaling.

The rescue service believes that between 50 and 100 cars have caught fire, or about half of those believed to have been there.

– It is an approximate calculation. From what I can understand from my staff, they have counted there were about 200 cars in total.

Police are investigating arson

The fire was first spreading to the embankment of the main line, but now everything is extinguished and the rescue service will move to a guard post and analyze what environmental impact on the ground the fire may have.

– On the one hand, our extinguishing water can carry very dangerous particles and then can come out cans of gasoline and the like, substances dangerous for the environment, so it will be an extensive work with it, says Curt Byström.

When the rescue service arrived, there was a fire both in the house and in the cars, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. The police have cordoned off the area and will conduct a technical investigation.

The police have questioned people related to the scene.

– A report has been made of arson or fire damage, and it is the circumstances of the place that lead to suspect that it may have been planted, says Maria Linné, press spokeswoman for the police in the northern region.

What are the circumstances, the police can not enter. No one was injured in the fire.
