FALKENBERG. Marcus Lantz was not allowed to stay.
Then Mjällby climbed higher on the table.
– A kinky move, but I worked even harder, says Lantz.
It would be the background drama with Kalmar FF and Falkenberg. But even though Falkenberg got off to a dream start at 1-0 after just two minutes, it was the sensation of this year’s Allsvenskan that was the winner again when Jacob Bergström determined it 3-2 for Mjällby in the minute 90.
When the media, 15 minutes after the final signal, wanted to interview coach Marcus Lantz, the 45-year-old had left Falcon Alkoholfri Arena and Mjällby AIF for good.
– I’m not so much about standing up and giving damn long speeches. It was more thanks for this, the guys have been great and then I went home, says Lantz when Sportbladet catches up with him.

Kept going up
News came on November 12 that Marcus Lantz would no longer be coach of newcomer Allsvenskan after just one season.
Then Mjällby was seventh in the Allsvenskan.
After three consecutive victories, the newcomer finishes fifth in the Allsvenskan, the best place for the Blekinge team after sixth place in 2010.
– There were several who thought he was stupid who accepted that coaching job for Mjällby. I was doomed, but it only provoked me even more. But landing where we did now is unbelievably good.
– When I received the message that I would not stay, I started again, even more as I did as a player. So damn it, we would break every record that could be broken for Mjällby. “You don’t want to hold me, then he’ll work even harder.”
Did it turn you on even more?
– Yes, that’s who I am. It can be a pathological movement. I’ve worked really hard all year, but I’ve worked even harder after it became clear that I wouldn’t stay.
– Even against Falkenberg, I felt that burden. We would win. So now I feel quite drained of energy.

Lantz to his old club?
Lantz now stands out as a very conceivable replacement for Olof Mellberg in the relegated Helsingborgs IF.
– The connection between HIF and me becomes natural because I played there for ten years. Everyone knows my feelings. There are no contacts made and I am open to everything. If it is an exciting project, it does not have to be of the highest level.
How soon do you want to finish something new?
– I don’t feel any stress. But I have told Mjällby that it is good if they get a new coach after me as soon as possible so that the new coach can get directly involved with the team and the planning. I think a lot of people want to fill their vacancies as quickly and accurately as possible.
How do you celebrate fifth place?
– I’ll hang out with the family when I’m home in a bit. Then I’ll sit on the couch and have a glass of red wine.
