The Swedish Customs had detained the man a couple of times before and realized that he had put alcohol in the Öresund. Then the organized recognition of the case began.
The man sometimes switched to a relative’s car so as not to be recognized by customs. He shopped at the stores in Burg, near Puttgarden. In total, there were 209 trips.
The 58-year-old was arrested during a distribution round to customers in the Asmundtorp area on September 10. Then he was in full swing delivering the requested drinks.
– We had been exploring it for a long time. When we arrested him, it was a planned attack, says Oscar Lindvall, leader of the task force at Swedish Customs.
– Then we made a map of their habits and also cooperated with the German customs.
“All the time alone”
The man surrendered as soon as he was arrested and confessed immediately.
– They caught him red-handed and convinced him of a crime, says Oscar Lindvall.
However, the man did not want to single out his clients. Nor has he accepted that his wife and son were involved in smuggling, as the prosecutor claims.
– I alone, all the time alone, says the 58-year-old in response to the question of who has helped.
The son is still accused of having made seven trips during the summer of this year.
The wife is being prosecuted for her refusal to help smuggle because the husband used her bank card for purchases and her account to receive payments from Swish.
The man must now pay SEK 614,000, which is considered to have been earned from the business. You will also have to pay taxes on the contraband goods.
Since you have been on sick leave for at least part of the time, you also run the risk of being prosecuted for benefit violations and having to repay your paid benefits.
