Third time valid for Växjö Lakers. There was a penalty shootout loss to Färjestad and Linköping in the first two rounds of the SHL, but on Thursday night the long-awaited 3-pointer came for the Smålanders.
However, it was a strong Rögle who opened the scoring account. Ängelholm’s team, which won the debut against Linköping and then followed up with a strong 3-2 victory against HV71, now went 1-0 in games five on three in the first period. Daniel Zaar went free and was not wrong when throwing the disc into the net.
It didn’t seem impregnable
The result lasted for a while, but the Lakers would return when one of the game’s giants, Pontus Holmberg, scored the equalizer with a different shot. Rögle goalkeeper Christoffer Rifalk had to capitulate.
Rifalk had to do the same in the third period. Emil Pettersson’s shot did not seem unattainable and, through the goalkeeper, the puck stormed into the net.
A goal and an assist: “It’s good to get a dividend”
Rögle tried to get the tie, but the Lakers resisted and took the first three of the season.
– We have a good hockey game. We defend our goal well. It was well deserved with a win, says Emil Pettersson, who accounted for a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win.
– Well of course. I know we have very skilled players in the chain and we have good pressure towards the goal. It’s good to get a dividend, says the hero of Cmore’s party.
Closer to the Smålanders, Luleå awaits Saturday as Rögle hosts Djurgården on the same day that the Greens and Whites have a chance for quick revenge.
– We play with good speed. Hard to explain, but it’s bitter. Both teams had good positions and it was an open game, but you don’t always have the rebounds with you, says Simon Ryfors of Rögle.
