Between November 1 and December 26, Arsenal did not win a single match in the Premier League. Now they’ve found their way back to the winning track again, when tonight’s encounter with West Bromwich on snowy The Hawthorns gave them their third straight league win.
The first big chance of the match came in the 16th minute, when Bukayo Saka threw a cross that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came close to reaching to make it 1-0.
However, the goal from the forward would come for Arsenal. With 23 minutes played, Kieran Tierney fell into a situation of suspected penalty after a tackle by the visiting right-back, but the referee, in good line of sight, gave the signal to continue playing.
Five minutes later, Arsenal would also make it 2-0, when Bukayo Saka ended an attacking pattern by hitting the ball into the goal from close range on a pass from Emile Smith Rowe.
West Bromwich had a ball on goal early in the second half, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Instead, Arsenal would make it 3-0 in the 61st minute, when Alexandre Lacazette pushed in a return.
Just three minutes later, Lacazette also made it 4-0 at Tierney’s posts, a result that highlighted the game. Lacazette has already scored four goals in his last three Premier League games.
– A very resounding victory, winning the last three games during the Christmas period is not easy. When the weather cleared, we played good football. We had to deal with certain things because in the end the plan was difficult to play, says Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta after the match according to the BBC.
Victory means Arsenal move up to 11th place in the Premier League. West Bromwich is still penultimate, and in the last three home games they have had three losses with a total goal difference of 0-12.
In the next round Arsenal will host Crystal Palace at home, but first they will face Newcastle United in the third round of the FA Cup. West Bromwich will have Blackpool in the FA Cup in the next match, followed by a derby against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Molineux.
