On Thursday, the requirements for residents of the Västra Götaland region were tightened.

Refraining from indoor environments such as stores, shopping malls, museums, libraries, bathrooms, and gyms were some of the advice when local regulations for the public were tightened.

But a few miles south of Gothenburg, opportunities opened up with Halland as a kind of free zone with known tips remaining, such as hand washing and distance, something that was seen in parking lots outside the shopping complex in Kungsbacka on Friday. in the afternoon where the cars were crowded.

The virus doesn’t care about limits

But the appearance is deceptive: The virus doesn’t care about county or regional borders.

The number of covid-19 cases has increased rapidly.

– The situation is serious. We have had a sharp increase in the number of covid-19 cases this week, says Maria Löfgren, an assistant physician for infection control in the Halland region.

From Monday to Thursday of this week, 291 new cases of covid-19 were registered in the region.

During the past week, Halland had 195 cases.

– The burden of health care is getting heavier, more people need hospital care, more people get infected and more people get sick. We are on a negative trend and it is clear that the spread of the infection has increased significantly in Halland in recent days, emphasizes Maria Löfgren.

Does not exclude local restrictions

He does not rule out that the Halland region will soon follow the Västra Götaland region and introduce local restrictions.

– We haven’t arrived yet. But it is not unlikely that we will also introduce restrictions on infection in the near future and the number of patients will continue to increase. We constantly have a dialogue with the Swedish Public Health Agency and other people involved and we are alert to make a decision, he says.

In the meantime, the citizens of Västra Götaland see Halland as a county where you can relax and shop during the pandemic, they don’t think it’s a good idea.

– I highly recommend that you don’t. We have a social extension: the risk of infection or contagion is not lower in any of the regions, especially not for the reason that we have not currently introduced local restrictions, he says.

Reported as a source of infection

During the pandemic, public transport has been identified as a source of infection and the general council has tried to avoid it.

On Friday, there were few passengers on the trains going to and from Kungsbacka station. But of course there were people who had no choice.

– I work mainly from home and I usually drive my car when I go to Gothenburg. More this time it didn’t work out, says Claudia Vintr who was heading to Gothenburg with her sons Max and Oliver Newman, aged seven and nine respectively.

– We have to do something fun during the fall break and we will stay in a hotel for one night. But once there, we have limited activity and closely monitor distance and hygiene, he emphasizes.

Works without mouth guards

Train hostess Susanna Olsson was waiting for the commuter train. You haven’t seen any significant difference in travel as of late.

– At the beginning of the pandemic, people seemed anxious and tense, but after a while they began to slip into everyday life and relax, but now it may change again, he says.

She herself travels through western Sweden on duty, without a mouth guard.

– These are the restrictions we have. Of course, we are very careful and keep our distance in contact with travelers. So far I, pepper, pepper, have made it. Sooner or later I will go for it, but there is no use walking and worrying, you just have to follow the rules, he says.
