Kronoberg schoolchildren urged to avoid taking the bus

In connection with the start of school, several regions in southern Sweden have expressed concern that it could lead to congestion on public transport and further spread of the infection.

In Kronoberg, employees of the county traffic marketing department have been in schools and urged students to avoid taking buses and trains due to congestion, writes Smålandsposten.

Patrik Tidåsen, traffic director at Länstrafiken Kronoberg, is now expressing concern that the situation could get even worse this winter.

– It is a difficult situation, we feel anxiety before winter with city buses because normally there are more people traveling in winter, he tells SMP.

According to the traffic manager, it would not help to install more buses. Nor is it an option to close public transport.

– Even if we had doubled the traffic, it would not have helped to avoid congestion in winter. There can be 90 people on a bus during the winter and then several have to get on the bus.

Special equipment for pandemics

Recently, the Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) came out and explained that the government is developing a special law against pandemics to, among other things, remedy congestion on public transport.

According to the idea, a maximum number of people should be set on buses and trains, but also in shops.

– We need to find a way to quickly produce legislation where we can take action that we cannot take today with the Infection Control Act and the Public Order Act, Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren told Dagens Nyheter.

However, the proposal runs the risk of conflicting with constitutionally protected freedoms and thus is a difficult trade-off to make, Lena Hallengren explained.
