Lying on the grass with a concussion and a bleeding mouth, Kjell Rudolphis watched the group of berry pickers flee in their cars.
He had asked them to leave his private land and then they brutally beat him.
– The adrenaline made him not experience fear or pain, they were emotions that came later, he says.
Kjell Rudolphi, 75, lives in the countryside outside Hudiksvall. You have nothing against berry pickers, you mean that. Only those who repeatedly block their way with cars and move on, and right next to their plot. Several times he and his partner Margareta Carlstrand have urged the berry pickers to go elsewhere.
– Previously, they said “no problem” and moved on, but not on Thursday.

Kjell Rudolphi and Margaretha Carlstrand were beaten by berry pickers.
When Margaretha Carlstrand went to ask the berry pickers to continue in the morning for the third time, the situation changed from calm to threatening and then immediately dangerous.
– The police recommend that you do not confront the intruders, but call 112 or 114 14, but so far on two of those occasions the police have not come, says Kjell.
– When I arrived, I followed the advice of the police to photograph the cars. Then more and more people began to flock. They threw me and threw me.
– Then we said the police were on their way, then they drove their cars. Others ran screaming, pushing and pulling on our clothes.
Margareta’s car got in the way of the fleeing berry pickers. One of them yelled at him and grabbed a stake from the forest with which he attacked. Margareta was hit on the shoulder.
– When I tried to run to the rescue, I was surrounded. I have no idea how many there were, but Margaretha says there were at least 15 people.

Kjell recounts how he hit the ground and how one of the men sat on him and hit him in the face while others kicked his body.
So Kjell has a memory slot.
– Margareta told me that they threw me to the ground again, but I don’t remember.

Finally, one of the men snatched Margareta’s car keys and shoved it into the ditch. The group then fled the scene.
The couple tell their story, mainly to warn others who live in the country. When you read about fatal shootings and violence in the big city, you always felt sorry for people who must be afraid.
– Now I’m the one who should be afraid. This was a group of about 30 people, when I asked them before they said they are from Bulgaria.
– I don’t want to hang out with all the berry pickers, but these guys are obviously violent and I don’t want anyone else to experience the same thing as me.
Police had yet to arrest anyone suspected of Monday’s assault. Nor has anyone been brought in for questioning.
– They had four people who were going to be taken for questioning, but it has not happened yet, says the leader of the preliminary investigation, Tomas Sandin.
He says that for several years there have been incidents involving berry pickers.
– But I had never heard that things were as bad as now.
Kjell Rudolphis hopes, but dares not believe, that those who abused him will be caught.
– I have provided both information and photos of the people, in addition, the police have registration numbers on the cars. For my safety and that of others, I really hope that the police will invest some resources to resolve this.
