Kim Jong-un’s sister returns, after a mysterious absence

State media report that Kim Yo-Jong was present when North Korean leaders inspected work in the Kimhwa region to repair damage after typhoons this summer that destroyed more than 1,000 homes. This is the first time Kim Jong-Un’s sister has been seen since July 27.

In one of the photos she is standing a little behind her brother laughing. In another, she walks through a field with Kim Jong-Un and some officials. Although Kim Jong-Un was satisfied with the pace of construction, he called the buildings “monotonous”.

“I wish they had achieved artistic harmony with the environment combined with diversification,” Kim Jong-Un said according to UPI.

Kim Yo-Jong was called “North Korea’s number two”

When Kim Jong-Un suddenly disappeared from public affairs in the spring for three weeks, Kim Yo-Jong was singled out as a possible successor. For several years she has been a trusted assistant and adviser to Kim Jong-Un. Kim Yo-Jong has gained more and more power over time and, according to the South Korean defense minister, leads one of the most important political bodies in North Korea.

When Kim Jong-Un showed up at a factory opening, speculation about his successors faded. But according to South Korean media, the dictator was upset by the sister’s new media image, including the fact that South Korean officials had called Kim Yo-Jong “North Korea’s number two.”

Experts speculated that she may have lost her position on the orders of Kim Jong-Un, or been removed. Other experts felt that it was precisely because the sister did not seem to want to take over her brother’s job that she voluntarily moved away from the eyes of the outside world. But now it seems that it has returned.
