The Stockholm Region has requested assistance with the IVA staff in the form of an application to the National Board of Health and Welfare. When asked what is happening with the region’s petition, Iréne Nilsson-Carlsson replied:

The Medical Products Agency was also present at Thursday’s press conference. Veronica Arthurson, unit chief for the Medical Products Agency, said the authority will have a good idea of how vaccines work. Currently, the European Medicines Agency, EMA, is examining four vaccine candidates.
– In the event of approval of covid-19 vaccines, we will have a good idea of how effectively they protect against covid-19 for adults and the elderly. We will also be aware of common and less common side effects that occur relatively quickly.
The Medical Products Agency is also responsible for tracking vaccines once they have been approved and started to be used.
“The purpose is, among other things, to detect unusual side effects early on and also to monitor the protective effect and immunity over time,” said Veronica Arthurson.
