Democrat Stacey Abrams, a former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, pays tribute to her party colleague on CNN.
– It is a privilege to be able to be reflected in leadership, both for African-American society and for Indian-American society and for women of color in general, she says.
And Stacey Abrams is far from the only one to pay tribute to Kamala Harris after she broke the glass ceiling.
Symone Sanders, Advisor to the President-Elect:
– I think that people in Wilmington and people around the world see the opportunities in the United States.
Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the House of Representatives, says “many of us have grown up” when told that women in particular are too emotional to be elected.
– But now a woman of color, a black woman, has been elected to the second highest office in the country, she says.
– It is remarkable and you cannot be what you cannot see. It is said so often and it is so surprising that so many little girls are growing up now that this is the norm for them.
“Someone who looks like me”
Kamala Harris said during her speech, shortly after it became clear that Biden had won the election, that “I may be the first woman in this position, but not the last.”
The statement has been acclaimed by many, including Democrat Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, who watched the speech with his 8-year-old daughter.
– And the first thing Ilwad said to me was: “This is someone who looks like me, Mom.”
– We cannot deny that representation is powerful, that it allows so many girls, not only in our country but in the world, to see themselves as someone who can achieve the greatest missions in our country when she said that anything is possible if you are willing to work for it.
