This year’s inventory shows the Swedish wolverine population at 687, according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Therefore, the strain is above the limit of a favorable conservation status, which is 600 individuals.
The inventory also means that the number of animals in the country is estimated to be as large as last year.
The survey also shows that 101 rejuvenations (the number of women with young) took place this year, a decrease from 104 last year. The calculation of the number of people is based on an average of three years of rejuvenation. Therefore, the number of rejuvenations can be reduced in one year, while, in general, the strain is considered to have not changed.
The southernmost rejuvenation of Sweden this year was found 40 km north of Karlstad.
In Norway, there are an estimated 382 wolves this year, and 63 rejuvenations were found this year.
When the Norwegian and Swedish tribes merge, the total number of animals has increased slightly this year.
The inventory is done by tracking snow in the forest and mountainous landscape, and the DNA analysis and images from the game cameras are complementary.
