Federation captain Tomas Montén has eliminated a record 34-player team ahead of the JVM.

Partly because various players haven’t played for a long time, partly because of the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus.

The roster of the junior crowns will be reduced to 25 players before departure.

Already on Sunday, the team gathers for a training camp in a bubble in Sundsvall.

All players and leaders will be tested for the coronavirus three times next week.

– Those who do not pass a test will withdraw from the championship immediately and will be able to stay at home. It is clear that it can have a great sporting impact, says Tomas Montén.

William Eklund, who is one of the biggest stars in the squad, is ill and is not in training and games in Djurgården this week, but the forward is still in the squad.

– We had a dialogue there, it is not available to play for them at the moment. We have not felt any concern about it, but we have taken it out. Then we follow him until we meet on Sunday, says Tomas Montén.

Lost matches

The final squad will include 25 players, two more players than usual due to the corona pandemic.

It was on November 11 that the Swedish Ice Hockey Association made the decision to close all youth activities for the rest of the year to begin with, this applies to both matches and training sessions in the J20 and J18 series and various players. they haven’t been able to play games since.

– It will be a special JVM. I hope that we can give energy and joy to those who see us on TV, everyone may need it in these times, says Tomas Montén.

SHL players who are selected can miss around ten games for their club teams in the league.

The championship will be decided in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from December 25 to January 5.
