Gais had not won in a month when he came out to play the AFC in the pouring rain at Gamla Ullevi.
Following the 2-1 away win against Ljungskile on October 4, there had only been one point from four games.
With 2-0 against the AFC, the boys proved to be attentive to training last week.
– We have had some difficult games in which we have fallen far behind. Against Norrby, for example, we conceded three goals on three shots. That’s why we’ve trained a lot in the defensive game, says Julius Lindberg.
Acute goalkeeper save
But the zero would not have been intact if goalkeeper Mathias Karlsson made three or four forward saves.
– It’s good to have Mathias in the back, says Lindberg.
Goalkeeper-Karlsson will likely say the same about Julius Lindberg’s ability later in the plan.
He made it 1-0 in the 37th minute with a free kick that Meinhard Olsen fired from the left wing.
– It did not specifically target me, we were some who collided with that surface. I don’t know who they were, I just looked at the ball, says Julius Lindberg.
– It is good to get the first goal, it is easy to generate energy in it.
He scored the second goal with a fourth left.
“I just saw him take the ball”
Richard Yarsuvat stole the ball from an AFC defender inside the penalty area in a close game and passed the ball to independent Julius Lindberg, who shot for his second goal of the night.
AFC wanted their own free kick when they thought Yarsuvat was wrong.
– I did not think on that. “I just saw that he took the ball and set me up for the pass,” says Lindberg.
The three points led Gais to overtake Dalkurd and Öis in ninth place.
-Now it is important that we do not go down outside and continue fighting like today, says Julius Lindberg.
