On Monday, an entry ban from the UK was introduced because a new, probably more contagious, variant of the coronavirus is spreading rapidly in south-east England.
The Swedish Public Health Agency urged everyone who came from the UK to Sweden from December 12 to get tested, avoid contacts and stay home for a week.
Julia Olsson, 29, lives and works in London. Last Saturday, he went to his parents’ house in Stockholm, just days before the entry ban. He boarded the plane while Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned the population of the new mutation.
– I haven’t known my family for a long time, so it was good to have time to go to Sweden. But of course it would be terrible if I turned out to have this mutation with me, he says.
“It didn’t seem to keep track”
Although Julia Olsson has no symptoms, she wants to follow the calls from the Public Health Agency. He isolates himself in his parents’ house, where he lives during his stay. But when he tried to order a crowned test at the request of the authority, he was met with confusion.
– First I called the care guide, but they had no idea and they referred me to the Public Health Agency. When I called there, they said we would take the car to a test location, but we live in the middle of the city and we don’t have a car. Then they asked us to call the nearest health center, says Julia Olsson.
You are no longer registered in Sweden and therefore cannot download the app that many Stockholmians use to request a test at home. When, instead, she called the nearest health center, where she was previously listed, they asked why she should be tested without having symptoms, says Julia Olsson.
– It was a bit surprising. They were hesitant and did not appear to be aware of the new UK infection guidelines. When I was finally able to make an appointment to pick up the exam, they said that someone in my family could pick it up for me. We come to the conclusion that my mother can go there, but it also becomes strange because I live with my parents. If I happen to be infected, they probably get it too.
FHM: “The regions are responsible”
Sara Rörbecker, press secretary for the Swedish Public Health Agency, writes in an email response to Expressen:
“It is the regions that are responsible for testing activities against individuals, so please feel free to contact the region directly, alternatively SKR or Inera / 1177, when it comes to testing opportunities for individuals who do not have a Swedish ID. “.
Emma Spak, section manager of SKR, Swedish Municipalities and Regions, says that the opportunities to test are different in the regions, for people who do not have a population register in Sweden. However, it does not mention anything about a specific home test to avoid leaving the house.
– Often you cannot book through electronic systems, but you must go directly to medical attention to get a time for the test. People who are not registered in Sweden can, for example, get help through the health center, says Emma Spak during the Public Health Agency press conference on Tuesday.
Stockholm Region – Information may not have been received by everyone
The Stockholm Region press service wrote in an email to Expressen on Tuesday:
Recommendations to test all travelers who came from the UK after 12 December came in yesterday, so all caregivers may not have received all the information yet. Information was sent to all health centers in the region on Tuesday.
This is how it should work:
All travelers arriving from the UK after December 12 are advised to test for covid-19, primarily on the Always Open app.
The application asks if the user has arrived from the UK. Anyone who answers yes will receive their own order key that can be used to reserve samples at 1177.se.
At 1177.se there is another alternative to try UK travelers.
If the traveler cannot use the app but can log in at 1177.se, they can obtain an order key at a health center in order to book a sample at 1177.se.
If the traveler is unable to use the app or log into 1177.se, the health center should assist with sampling throughout the process. This may be relevant for people who do not have a Swedish social security number.
All sampling is free in the Stockholm region, even for those who do not have a Swedish social security number. “
